gregory heisler

TIME cover image shooting with 8x10 camera.... damn.

I read a post on http://strobist.blogspot.com/ and ran onto some of Gregory Heisler's work.
I really enjoyed some of the black and white stuff. Seeing work like this definitely motivates me. Tomorrow I'll have my camera out for sure.

Bikeriders In Daytona

While in Daytona for Bikeweek 10' I had a chance to check out the Bikeriders at the Southeast Museum of Photography on May Feb 27. Getting to see one of my favorite photo series in person was an awesome way to end my trip. The 11x14 prints looked great. It was just enough of a jump from the book to be able to notice some new things in the images. But I can say, the edition of the book that I have is reproduced very well. I was sad that they didn't include any of the color images from the series because I really think they change the way the viewer looks at the black and white images.

wishing...

So if I had like 10 grand sitting around
and a little less SENIOR THESIS in my life,
I think I'd have to buy this and build myself something new.

In a perfect world, it would have .....

a springer front end
a blacked out 93" S&S Shovelhead
a little larger gas tank
a white wall tire in the front
kick starter
apes but not the ones in the photo above
some sort of interesting rear fender
and I'd have to figure out the smallest gauges possible

and of course it would be free...

THE BROKEN SPOKE!

Thanks to Artbikerworld.com
I think I'm definitely going to have to check out the Broken Spoke.
Even though I'm only going to be in Daytona until the 28th, I'm going to try and check out the loud pipe contest on the 27th. but nothing is getting in the way of the Bikeriders opening.

Broken Spoke Saloon Daytona Bike Week

Hopefully the weather will hold out. From the Feb 23 to Feb 26 the weather is looking good. And even 30% chance of rain on saturday doesn't seem like it would be enough to ruin the good time.

Recent Inspiration from Easyriders

I'm hoping that my next series of motorcycle images begins to look something like these. I'm hoping to be able to dive deeper into the culture and show it in my images.

This image makes me look forward to Daytona Bike Week. I've been trying to help Jd figure out how he's going to get his bike ready to leave next monday but I starting to think he should do a burn out like this before he puts on the new rubber.

If I want to make images like this I might have to cuddle up with Jd on the Yamaha. Hopefully my new and very small canon point and shoot camera with help with the riding images. I need to do some flash tests but I'm probably going to need to use some tape to defuse it a little.

So with this image I'm more interested with the bike then I am with the photograph. The front brake set up this guy has is unlike anything I've ever seen. I like how clean it makes the handle bars

So this image is one of my recent favorites. I'm not exactly sure why, maybe it's that I'm jealous of the guy's tattoos but whatever it is, it makes me come back to this image again and again. I found the image in an Easyriders article about Sturgis (maybe that's another reason I like it) and decided to look up the photographer.

I found Michael Lichter's website (http://www.lichterphoto.com/) but I haven't had a chance to really check out all of the images. But he must be doing something right. I'd love to be photographing major rallies and having my work in Easyriders.

The Bikeriders at the SMP

The trip I'm planning to Daytona Beach just keeps getting better.

The Bikeriders will be at the Southeast Museum of Photography Feb 27-May 07.

I don't think I could have asked for a better exhibition for Daytona Bike Week.
I own the book but I'm really looking forward to seeing the Bikeriders in print form.
According to the SMP website, the prints are 11x14 which is definitely larger then the book.
It will also be interesting to see if they include the color images.
I'm planing to be at the opening Reception Saturday, february 27.

playing with my new point and shoot MACRO!

So I'm loving the macro feature on this camera.
I'm going to have to compare it to the canon camera mom and Ashley have.
Macro: 1.2 in. at f3.2.
This image doesn't fully push the this camera to its macro limits, but I'm just getting started.

New Camera! Canon SD780SI

So I bought a new point and shoot digital camera.
The Canon SD780IS

12.1 Megapixels
HD video
2.5-inch TFT color LCD widescreen
Optical Image Stabilizer System
3200 ISO
and alot more for only $200 bucks!

Picked up an 8 gig memory card.
I cant wait to fill it with images from Daytona Bike Week.

I'll post some test photos and video tomorrow.

Ashley's dog, Baylee had four puppies on my sisters birthday (decemeber 29th).
I'm not normally a sucker for puppies or small "cute" animals but these puppies are something else. This is her second litter and in the first litter I really liked the black ones. This time around the white and black girl is probably my favorite.
I think my mom and Elizabeth are going to try and sneak one in on dad. I really hope they can pull it off.

Piercing at Pinz & Needlez

 ashley's sternum piercing

Last night Ashley had her sternum pierced by Mike Jones at Pinz & Needlez. It looks great and seems to be healing nicely. I also had a chance to watch Steve Monie work on a womans leg. Really impressive work, no wonder everyone recommended him. He and I talked about having him do the tattoo I want, sounds like it wont be happening until April or later because of how backed up he is.

Some of Steve Monies work. For more of his work check out his site http://www.tattoomoney.com/
